The Irish Buoy Network was established in 2000 and maintains five buoys operating around the coast of Ireland. The project was set up through a highly successful collaboration between Met Eireann, the Marine Institute, the UK Met Office and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTAS). Since 2017 the project is run by the Marine Institute in collaboration with Met Eireann funded through the Department of Agriculture and the Marine (DAFM).
